Learn about Bekoji, Ethiopia

Bekoji is a small town located in central Ethiopia in the Arsi Zone in Oromia. Despite its small size (population 17K as of 2005 census), Bekoji is well known throughout the country and across the world as the home of many of Ethiopia’s best runners and athletes.

Bekoji is located near to Asella and Lake Langano, and is home to farmers, tradesmen, business owners, and students. Locals know Bekoji for its iconic round church, Kidus Giorgis Orthodox Church, the original structure built during the occupation by Italy.
